Connection with Matinees
“Students have come to really appreciate performances because they've experienced what goes into them.”
-Claire Noble, 1st grade teacher, J.J. Flynn Elementary School
Students and teachers participating in the Words Come Alive program attend matinees presented through the Flynn’s Student Matinee Series, witnessing the finest examples of world-class dance and theater. Whenever possible, special “meet and greet” opportunities with the performers are arranged for students from partner schools after the show.
Before and after the matinees, Flynn teaching artists help you and your students to identify the elements of the art forms in student matinees. Then together, you explore the creative process behind the development of the show and apply the same process to the curricular topics you are studying in class. This element of the Words Come Alive program is called a Matinee Companion Workshop. Learn more about stand-alone Matinee Companion Workshops here.
