Companion Workshops
Activate the Performance Experience!
“How did the workshop affect the students’ experience of the show? My conversations with students after the show showed such high level thinking around ideas of character empathy, motivation and artistic choices. “
- Jessica Eaton, grade 4 teacher, BFA/Fairfax
“The instructor knew how to relate to our students, and really made the workshop relevant and fun for them. I would love to have another workshop anytime! It was no-hassle, and the kids loved it.
-Lynne Manley, Grade 11-12 teacher, Milton HS
Highly interactive matinee companion workshops turn student matinees into more meaningful learning experiences for your students. Before or after the show, professional teaching artists visit your class and lead activities designed to give your students insight into the artists’ creative choices, arouse curiosity about the performance’s themes, and help students reflect upon and understand the show’s content.
Workshops can be held in your classroom on days before and/or after the show (minimum: 2 workshops per day) or at a Flynn studio the day of the matinee before and/or after the show (on-site workshops available on a first-come, first-served basis.) Current price is $100/hour-long workshop (plus mileage to/from Burlington if outside Chittenden County.) For more than 6 workshops, price is reduced to $90/hour. Check our funding resources page for ideas on where to seek funds if your own budget or school doesn’t have the resources to cover it.
