A free showing of the short film Black Spring, directed by Benoit Dervaux and choreographed by Heddy Maalem, will be followed by a discussion led by the artist. Winner of the Best Choreography for the Camera Award at the New York Dance on Camera Festival 2003, Maalem’s film weaves choreography with scenes of contemporary life in Nigeria, questioning our way of looking at African bodies and highlighting the political and emotional sensitivities in modern African dance.
