Photograph of Teen Actor Training Workshops

High school students with a passion for theater acquire a dynamic arsenal of performance skills in this eight-week series of workshops that helps actors reach their next personal level. Each week we tackle a new topic: acting, vocal and physical characterization, monologues, improvisation, audition techniques, and much more. Workshops culminate in a mock audition with feedback and a FlynnSpace performance showcasing students’ growth.

Photo of Danielle Sertz DANIELLE SERTZ is a director, choreographer, playwright, and teacher whose students have ranged from young children to professionals. Her training includes the National Theater Institute, Ann Reinking’s Musical Theater Project, a B.A. in drama from Ithaca College, and an M.F.A. in directing from UMass Amherst.

Photo of Lida Winfield LIDA WINFIELD has a diverse background in choreography, performance, and the visual arts. She has taught theater and dance to students of all ages for more than ten years and teaches through the Flynn’s signature Words Come Alive! school program. Winfield founded her own studio in Massachusetts and creates and tours solo performances across New England.

The FlynnArts theater program creates supportive and fun-filled learning experiences that emphasize individual expression and embrace creative choice. Classes for children build sequentially, while teen and adult classes offer in-depth exploration of specific theater arts. Small classes mean that everyone receives personal attention, and performance opportunities let students try out their skills in front of supportive audiences filled with family and friends. Tours of the historic Flynn Theatre, discounts on world-class MainStage performances, and masterclasses with extraordinary visiting artists complement the strong core program.
