GRUPO DE RUA was founded by Bruno Beltrao 1996 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Since then, Beltrao has been shaking up the hip-hop world by using street dance performers as a basis for contemporary dance. Grupo de Rua also dispenses with breakdancing’s macho posturing, creating a striking and communal brand of modern dance.
The FlynnArts dance program instills a lifelong love of dance, helping veteran dancers and first-timers alike experience the unique power of their own bodies as expressive instruments. Classes cover a breadth of styles, teaching technique while helping students trust their own instincts—instilling confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Classes focus on process rather than product, but a year-end optional performance satisfies dancers’ desire to share their growth and hard work with family and friends. Our program is enhanced by connections to the world-class artists who perform on the Flynn MainStage and share their dance styles and ideas with FlynnArts students in masterclass settings. Drop-in students are permitted in teen/adult classes on a space-available basis for $12-$16 per class (depending on length). However, most classes fill up quickly with registered students, leaving no room for drop-ins. It is wise to secure a space in class by registering for the full semester.
