From Us Girls to FannyPack, from Salt-n-Pepa to Missy
Elliott, the ladies of hip-hop have infused the form with a
cheeky attitude that exemplifies a self-confident feminine
force. Fun and flirty, saucy and strong, this gals-only class
highlights the moves and grooves of women in hip-hop
from its conception through today. Come get your sass on!
LOIS TROMBLEY is the co-creator, director, and choreographer of the innovative Spielpalast Cabaret and has been a member of Jeh Kulu Dance & Drum Theatre for over 10 years. She teaches through the Flynn’s signature Words Come Alive! school programs, has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and studied West African dance in Senegal.
The FlynnArts dance program instills a lifelong love of dance, helping veteran dancers and first-timers alike experience the unique power of their own bodies as expressive instruments. Classes cover a breadth of styles, teaching technique while helping students trust their own instincts—instilling confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Classes focus on process rather than product, but a year-end optional performance satisfies dancers’ desire to share their growth and hard work with family and friends. Our program is enhanced by connections to the world-class artists who perform on the Flynn MainStage and share their dance styles and ideas with FlynnArts students in masterclass settings. Drop-in students are permitted in teen/adult classes on a space-available basis for $12-$16 per class (depending on length). However, most classes fill up quickly with registered students, leaving no room for drop-ins. It is wise to secure a space in class by registering for the full semester.
