Jazz pianist-composer Jason Moran is known for his
masterful approach to a wide variety of piano styles—from
all kinds of jazz to classical and more. Called "the most
provocative thinker in current jazz" by Rolling Stone, Moran
will talk about piano technique, interpretation, and
improvisation. Come prepared to play short pieces on the
Flynn’s new Steinway Grand Piano, and receive feedback
from a master educator.

JASON MORAN is renowned for his restlessly innovative piano
compositions which combine technical virtuosity and heartfelt
understanding of the jazz canon, with motifs borrowed from
hip-hop, funk, and electronic music. Rolling Stone called Moran
"the most provocative thinker in modern jazz."
Our music program offers a variety of vocal and instrumental classes, and serves our widest range of ages—from young infants to veteran learners. Early music classes enhance children’s natural creative impulses and help develop concentration, coordination, and cooperation. Classes for older children and adults combine individual attention with ensemble work, broaden students’ musical knowledge and performance skills, and introduce like-minded friends who often play and sing together for years to come! Masterclasses with visiting artists and discounts on world-class Flynn Center presentations further enhance the program.
