Back by popular demand! Leave your inhibitions behind and prepare to be challenged in this supportive and freeing romp into your most spontaneous and truthful self. Through theater exercises, improvisation, and scene study, participants will learn skills that lead to greater confidence and ease of expression—whether onstage or off. Come learn more about the actor's process—and your own creative potential! Class will cover different material than the fall session, but don’t be scared off by "Part II"—curious novices are welcome.

Directing for the Stage
ADULTS: Thursdays, March 6–April 10 • 5:15–7 pm • Susan Palmer • $125/6 wks. (Save $20 by pairing class with Acting, above, for $230 total) • Limit: 15 • Hoehl Studio Lab, third floor

Explore the elements of directing in a safe and creative environment and develop a toolbox of techniques as you direct one another in short scenes. Through practical study students uncover the challenges and choices directors face when working with a script, including analysis, conceptualizing, translating a concept into staging, and working with actors. Class culminates in an optional sharing of scenes directed and performed by participants. All levels of experience welcome.

Especially welcoming to adults new to the art form.

SUSAN PALMER
earned an M.F.A. in directing from Middlesex University in London, England. She has directed, taught, and performed in Europe and Canada, as well as locally with Vermont Stage Company, the Waterfront Theatre, and Vermont Commons School.

Our theater program emphasizes individual expression, creative choice, and FUN! Children’s classes build sequentially on the basics, while teens and adults can explore specific theater arts in greater depth (and shorter periods of time.) We keep class sizes small so everyone gets personal attention, and vary themes so that each semester challenges returning students as well as new ones. Performance opportunities let students try out their skills in front of supportive audiences of family and friends, and tours of the historic Flynn Theatre, discounts on world-class MainStage performances, and masterclasses with extraordinary visiting artists complement the strong core program.
