“The Urban Bush Women are unabashedly unapologetic about what they are: fierce, feminine, aggressive, sassy, funny, and proud.” —Durham Herald Sun
“Compagnie Jant-Bi dances with a mind-blowing intensity.” —New York Times
Since 1984, Urban Bush Women have engaged audiences in thrilling, socially-conscious
dance works based on African-American history, women’s experiences,
and the cultural influences of the African Diaspora. Now these seven powerful
American women collaborate with the seven male dancers of Senegal’s Compagnie
Jant-Bi in a life-affirming international artistic exchange between Africa and the
United States, exploring the similarities and differences in their lives, their dances,
their countries, and their experiences as people of African descent.
