Fourteen utterly distinctive dancers from Mali, Benin, Nigeria, and Senegal re-imagine
the danger and celebration of nature's rebirth in French/Algerian choreographer
Heddy Maalem's explosive interpretation of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps.
Inspired by Maalem's time in Lagos, where he confronted the cacophony of a city
of 12 million, this Sacre is furious and bold, straightforward and stripped of pretense.
Highly dynamic dance sequences and powerful group scenes are interlaced with
periods of intense silence and atmospheric film projections that provocatively contrast
with the dynamics of the legendary score.
This performance is recommended for mature audiences only—the
work contains adult content not suitable for young audiences.
