Malian guitar virtuoso Habib Koité, one of the most popular and beloved figures in contemporary African music, effortlessly fuses Mali's rich and diverse musical traditions with the rock and folk sounds of the Western world. Koité has appeared on Late Night with David Letterman, recorded with Bonnie Raitt and performed on some of the world's most prestigious stages during his illustrious career, earning adoring fans and accolades across the globe. His most recent album, Afriki, was partially recorded in Charlotte, Vermont for the local record label Cumbancha, and features an appealing set of songs that are innovative, modern, and accessible, yet inspired by centuries of Malian heritage. Presented in association with Cumbancha as part of their ongoing World Music Series, Koité's long-awaited return to the Flynn will surely be one of the most memorable concert events of the summer.
