Grammy-winning ensemble eighth blackbird shows off its phenomenal
virtuosity and renowned theatrical flair in a compelling, diverse program.
In her luminously beautiful Immutable Dreams, young New Yorker Kati Agocs
has spun a web of sensuous lyricism that strikingly contrasts with the brilliant
textures of Franco Donatoni's colorful Arpege. Stephen Hartke's Pulitzer
Prize-nominated masterpiece Meanwhile evokes music from an imaginary
Asian court with the help of a battery of invented percussion instruments.
Thomas Adés depicts a hilarous musical seduction in Catch, while in
Les Moutons de Panurge American maverick Fred Rzewski attempts to push
the ensemble beyond its limits. Will eighth blackbird be up to his challenge?
