A Flynn Center Co-Commission Uproarious Premiere!
“This play explores marginalized spaces that I’ve always been drawn to, or by default, placed into.”
(Thomas DeFrantz)
Boston Review from 10/4/06: In Newsweekly: Thomas DeFrantz's Entertains Queer Theories
"What is 'queer theory' and how does it relate to ME?"
That's the question playwright Thomas DeFrantz and his theater group, Slippage Ensemble, will ask in two performances of DeFrantz's newest work, the Flynn Center co-commissioned Queer Theory!, with Vermont premiere performances for two nights only in FlynnSpace.
In collaboration with The Theater Offensive, the acclaimed Boston-based gay theater company, DeFrantz and Slippage Ensemble have created an uproariously funny and wickedly satiric “musical travesty” that wittily skewers the distance between the highest ivory towers of academia and the dive-iest drag bar downtown. Playwright/actor DeFrantz, a professor of music and theater arts at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is joined in Slippage Ensemble by veteran actors and collaborators Margaret Ann Brady, Thomas Bardwell, Amatul Hannan, and Albert Chan. Queer Theory! explores the gaps between gay, lesbian, trans, bi, S&M-ers, and the same-gender-loving and asks, "Can’t we all just get along?"

the stuff of comedy.
