Community Ticket Program

The Community Ticket Program partners with more than 50 social service agencies to make performances accessible and affordable to every member of the community. Each season more than 3500 vouchers are distributed allowing over 1500 people to experience live performance at the Flynn. Exposure to the performing arts allows all audience members, regardless of economic status or physical or emotional ability, to explore who we are and what we can be, as individuals and as members of society. Longtime program partners include the Howard Center, Fletcher Free Library, Integrated Arts Academy, Spectrum Mentoring, Vermont Adult Learning, Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, and many more.

The season has been filled with many happy moments:

Girl/Boyz First is a community-based rural mentoring program based in central Vermont. The program director writes the following about the influence of the Community Ticket Program on mentor and mentees:

“Girls/Boyz First Mentoring has been privileged to enjoy the Community Ticket Program for the past five years or more…We serve approximately 40 pairs of 8-18 year olds and their adult mentors. Our mentors jump at the opportunity to have an affordable way to broaden their mentees world, as our program encourages low cost or no cost activities.  As hard as it is to believe, sometimes some of our mentees have never even had the opportunity to travel to Burlington, let alone see a show at The Flynn. Keep up the great work.”

The director of Chittenden Community Action, forwarded the following note from a single mother who is able to bring her adult son who is disabled to shows at the Flynn through the Community Ticket Program:

“I would like to take a moment to thank the folks who make it possible for low income Vermonters to enjoy events at the Flynn. As the mother of a child with a significant disability, I realize the impact music has on him. Through this program we have been able to enjoy a variety of shows…musical concerts, Taiko drummers and in a couple of weeks we will see a circus performance.  It brings me great joy to see his eyes light up, see him clapping to the music and see his body swaying to the beat. Thank you again, for making this possible for this very special young man.”

A Champlain College graduate sent the following email about how much the Community Ticket Program has meant to her and her daughter over the past few years:

“I am writing you to share with you how much the Flynn vouchers offered through the Single Parent Program at Champlain College has meant to me and my family. I am a young single parent of a 7 year old girl who loves the Arts. This is largely to thank because of your generosity. Ticket prices are out of reach for us on our budget but because of the vouchers my daughter and I have been exposed to the arts in a beautiful and meaningful way. Any time I mention the Flynn she is excited to go no matter the show because she has enjoyed all of her past shows from ‘Harold and the Purple Crayon’ to the Burlington Taiko drummers. I would encourage you to keep making voucher available because it opens doors for our families. Thank you again so much for the opportunity you have blessed us with.”
