  • MainStage Map It

Shadowland tells a young girl’s coming-of-age story through a multimedia mashup of shadow play, front-of-screen choreography, and colorful explosions of dance. Created by the always-innovative Pilobolus in collaboration with the lead writer of SpongeBob SquarePants, the company draws on surreal imagery and themes of magic realism to evoke the myriad and often confusing sensations of adolescence. Multiple moving screens merge projected images in concert with on-stage dancers, set to an original score by David Poe, whose poetic work for Shadowland ranges from ballads to hard-driving rock. With Pilobolus, the assumed is always questioned, the ephemeral explored.
