Manual Cinema ADA/AVA

Student Matinee Series Manual Cinema ADA/AVA

  • Wednesday, February 21, 10am
  • MainStage Map It
  • Grades 8-12.

  • $8.50

Intricate shadow puppetry, a technically sophisticated narrative, and an emotionally vast live score tell the tale of twin sisters Ada and Ava. Bereaved of Ada, Ava marks her solitary time in the patterns of a life built for two. Exploring themes of duality, the story finds Ava in a traveling carnival’s mirror maze facing different thresholds of meaning. Set in a gothic New England landscape, ADA/ AVA uses beautifully-wrought theatrical tension to explore the fantastic and mundane; the melancholy and mirthful; the self and other. Produced by the boundary-bending Chicagoans of Manual Cinema, ADA/AVA won Best in Festival at the 2013 National Puppetry Festival.
