  • Thursday, January 11, 10am and 12:15pm
  • in FlynnSpace, our black box theater Map It
  • Grades 10-12

Using puppetry to relate the complexities and devastation of the ongoing global refugee crisis, Babylon tells seven refugees’ stories in four-part choral songs that blend actual testimony with unreal figures. Puppets represent refugees from Syria, Afghanistan, El Salvador, and Burundi as the ancient city of Babylon, in present-day Iraq, becomes a metaphor for the destabilization leading the crisis. Working with the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, Sandglass Theater questions how we understand and respond to the conflicts that exist within the countries refugees flee as well as those in which they seek sanctuary.

Links to refugee experiences, community, storytelling, personal narratives, international conflicts.
