  • MainStage Map It
  • Grades 6 – 12

In 1970, writer James Baldwin and anthropologist Margaret Mead recorded a conversation on the defining subject of the American experience: race. Using this conversation as its centerpiece, Spectrum Dance Theater explores these singular 20th century thinkers’ voices to inform the current conversation around racial and cultural equality. A Rap on Race provokes the heart and the intellect; the senses and the soul. Seattle-based Spectrum Dance Theater is composed of artists from different social, cultural, ethnic and economic backgrounds with the principal objective of making dance of the highest merit accessible to all audiences.
