Ella Fitzgerald is well known as one of the great twentieth-century jazz singers and interpreters of American popular song, but her genius for jazz improvisation—the spontaneous creation of new melodic lines on existing chord progressions—is less well known and recognized. This class uses original transcriptions of Ella’s improvised solos as models for improvising on jazz standard tunes from the swing and bebop eras. Open to any vocalist/instrumentalist with a basic ability to read melodic staff notation.

  • Thumbs Up Icon This class is especially welcoming to first-timers!
